Dr. Anita Barikian is a retina specialist with advanced fellowship training in both medical retina and ocular oncology. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology with distinction and completed her medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the American University of Beirut. Dr. Barikian then pursued an ocular oncology fellowship at the University of Tennessee and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, followed by three years of medical retina fellowship at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
Dr. Barikian has authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including Ophthalmology, Retina, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina. She contributed a book chapter on glaucoma and has been an invited speaker and has presented her research at major conferences such as ASRS, ARVO, EURETINA, and Retina World Congress. Her work has earned multiple honors, including 1st prize at the Annual Biomedical Research Day in Beirut and 3rd prize at the Fellowship and Residency Research Program Day for her study on dexamethasone implants in AMD.
She serves as a peer reviewer for OSLI, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Open Ophthalmology Journal, and sits on scientific advisory boards for pharmaceutical companies developing retinal therapeutics. Her clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and the full spectrum of medical retina diseases. Outside of medicine, Dr. Barikian enjoys traveling with her husband and discovering new restaurants.
